Beware: Google is watching you and record your activity

Beware: Google is watching you and record your activity

Google helping me a lot by reminding me when I book an air ticket or Cinema ticket about the flight timing or event times. It also informs me when my flight is delayed. Further, it is telling me how much time it will take to reach the destination so that I can plan ahead. Further, it prompts me with the sites I want to see and videos of my interest when I enter into Chrome or YouTube. It maintains my calendar also. This is a job of a secretary and it works more than a secretary. The other side of it, the secretary and driver know the secrets of the Boss and the same way Google also know my secrets.

In Hindu mythology, it is believed that the GOD is everywhere and whatever we do he will know. We cannot do anything good or bad away from His sight. Now Google is watching us closely and record everything we do from the simple browsing on the website to the places we visit and the number of times we use WhatsApp. Google knows all. we don’t know where we were on 13th of last month, don’t worry we can check with Google. It will tell us were we on that day.

They are scanning the entire Internet and tracking everyone/everything. This means that if you have a Gmail account, and you use the Chrome browser on your desktop computer while you enter Google searches, all of the data you volunteer ends up in one big pile.

What exactly does it gather?

1. Your browser, operating system and Internet provider.
2. The websites you visit, the pages you click on, and how long you spend on each one.
3. Whether you’re using a desktop, Smartphone or tablet.
4. If you’re a Gmail user, the emails you send and receive. If not, it can still scan any email you send to a Gmail account.
5. If you have an Android phone and don’t turn off location tracker, it will be logging your movements.
6. For users of Google Now, it can use all of this data to make predictions on what it thinks you want.

What is the use of tracking your information?

The more they know about you, your interest, the places you visit and the people you meet, it will be easy for them with an advertisement that suits you after all Google’s primary revenue is from advertising.  Knowing about you will increase the value of the advertisement thereby increased value for both the advertiser and Google.

The second one is by knowing you and your interest, it will be easy for Google to bring out products of your interest and serve you better. In the market the companies will survive only if the know the customer, his preference and serve them their needs.

How can one access to the data
These data are available only for you and can be accessed only on login to the Google. First log into Google and go to your account information, Dash board and activity log. The screen shots what data are collected and displayed are provided for information

What can you do with this information?

Although the information is not as actionable as the one from the Dashboard, it can still be useful. You may use it for your decision. Further it will also help you locate your devices if it lost or misplaced by you. There is provision to ring the phone even if it is locked. You can also locate the phone on the Map. You may destroy the data available in your phone and also lock your phone from here. It may also help you to monitor your family member’s activity and your kids activity.

Plus, giving the right information to Google will make them serve you better ads when you are online. You cannot escape seeing the ads, so they better be about something you actually care and that can only be true of Google has the correct data about you.

 How to turn off tracking

To stop Google from tracking you, open the menu button up top, then Activity controls from the dropdown menu.

There you'll find six sections: Web & App Activity, Location History, YouTube Search History, YouTube Watch History, Device Information, and Voice and Audio Activity. If you're an iPhone user, you'll only need toggle off the first four. But Android users may also want to switch off Device Information and Voice and Audio Activity, so that Google will no longer be able to store your mobile app info and voice, respectively, for improved results and suggestions and voice recognition.

Another option is to control your privacy on a case-by-case basis by browsing in Incognito mode, which prevents Chrome from saving your surfing activity or a record of anything you've downloaded within that session.

Conclusion:

Take decision of what can be tracked so that your activity is protected and at the same time enjoy the services of Google.
